Trent Ellis & The Frozen Deep See

Over the past 7 years I have taken advantage of any and every opportunity to get in the water with a camera. While working on a number of Discovery channel shows I had the opportunity to join the underwater unit and began assisting a big documentary Cinematographer. With him I have traveled the world working on shows like “Blue Planet II”, “Deadliest Catch”, and Natgeo’s “Hostile Planet”. A large portion of this work has involved diving in some of the coldest water in the world from the arctic to the Antarctic. As an assistant on these shows my roll varies from lighting underwater scenes, acting as safety diver, and shooting a second or behind the scenes camera.

While assisting this talented cameraman has been an incredible opportunity, I have always enjoyed creating my own art. While on these jobs I have taken every opportunity to capture my own perspective to, at the very least, tell my own story about these places and experiences. Outside of these large-scale productions, I spend time creating a documentary and narrative underwater content of my own. Doing this I have contributed to various films and commercials bringing these stories below the surface.

I love any opportunity to capture beautiful images and stories.

Bearing Sea Gold (Discovery Ch): This show opened the world of ice diving to me. While adding a number of challenges to my work it makes for an incredible diving and photographic experience. Ice has a way of holding the ocean still making for clear water in locations prone to silty conditions. Another visual element to sea ice is the chandelier effects under the surface created by shifting sea ice creating pressure ridges which force broken ice both up on the surface and down underwater.
